About

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), on behalf of UK Research and Innovation, is working with Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Innovate UK, to convene two interdisciplinary meetings which aim to bring together the respective research and innovation communities with an interest in Circular Economy, and to strengthen collaboration to enable greater interdisciplinary working.

A circular economy is one where we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. A rapid transition to a more circular economy (CE) offers the UK potential for sustainable growth and prosperity, but requires clear implementation pathways, based upon sound research evidence.

The meetings are intended to:

  • Seek input on key challenges and opportunities
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary networking
  • Build potential new research collaborations
  • Identify potential resource flows around which communities could convene and build future funding proposals. Examples of which may include but are not limited to:
    • Food value chains
    • Consumer goods
    • Future material systems
